4 Things I Hate Paying For But Wouldn’t Want To Live Without

can't live without toilet paperThere are some things in life you hate spending money on but at the same time you’d never live without them.

It takes a lot to get me to part with my hard earned money, but I’ll do it every time I need these things.

I just can’t stand the idea of paying for them.

Toilet Paper

Buying toilet paper sucks. I think everyone can agree with that. We wouldn’t want to imagine living without it though. I learned to be happy to buy toilet paper after watching a couple of over the top episodes of Extreme Cheapskates on TLC.

In the first episode, someone actually took the time to separate two ply toilet paper. My mind was blown. Who wastes that much time? Just buy cheaper single ply toilet paper!

Unfortunately, that isn’t as bad as the second episode I saw. The second person didn’t use toilet paper at all. Instead, they shared rags which they washed and reused multiple times with all of their family members… I won’t go any further on this one. It was that disturbing.

There are some types of insurance that I’d never go without. While I hope I never have to make a claim on my insurance policies, they exist to make sure that I’m never out of a large sum of money that could ruin my plans for retirement and my future life.

Whether it is insuring my home from fires and hurricanes or insuring my car in case I get in a horrible accident, these insurance policies offer a reduction of risk which I am thankful for. I just hate paying for insurance as I, like everyone, never expect to use them.

Of course, when I finally do have to use my insurance policies, I’m sure I’ll change my tune.

Clothes are a necessary part of our lives. I like to wear clothing and I’m definitely not a nudist or anything like that. I just hate buying it.

Clothes serve a purpose, but I just don’t feel the need to have giant closets full of clothes just so people don’t see me wearing the same thing twice in the same month.

I do end up buying quality clothes so that they last longer, but they never last as long as I want them to. I tried the cheap route, but then I realized there is a difference between being cheap and being frugal.

I guess I’ll just have to keep hating spending money on clothes forever!

Medical and Vet Bills

Another necessary but completely annoying thing to pay for is medical and vet bills. Don’t get me wrong, the health of my family, which includes my pets, is extremely important and I’d always pay for medical attention when it is necessary.

Unfortunately, between the insane complexity of billing, insurance and the high prices, it drives me INSANE!

So now that I’ve let you know what I hate paying for, I want to know what you hate paying for! Let me know down in the comments below!

  1. We use toilet paper too, but most of the world doesn’t. They clean themselves with washclothes. Toilet paper was introduced to our culture fairly recently and for most of us it has come to seem indispensable. But even in our culture many poor people don’t have it. Like all toiletries, food stamps can’t be used to buy it, so people who are surviving on food stamps and housing assistance often don’t use toilet paper. They just wipe and wash the old-fashioned way.

  2. I am going to agree with most of these. I will say that I have tried the European way of cleaning the rear and it is quite nice. I don’t have the ability to do that in my home, so toilet paper it is.

  3. Insurance for sure. And TAMPONS. I’m sure most women will be with me on that one.

Definitely travel insurance – I always resent paying it, but having had a 20 flight delay and lost luggage in the same flight to NY last year, I’m really glad I took it out! I also hate having to by petrol for the car, but unfortunately that’s a necessity at the moment! FF xx

  5. Nice list! Dentist cost kill me. Even with insurance out of pocket cost are incredible. I continue to buy toilet paper. 🙂

I’m surprised no one mentioned taxes. I hate paying taxes, but I like some of the things they buy. I just wish that Congress would listen to me on what they should spend tax revenues on. (Same goes for state and local revenues.)

    • I could live without taxes and I think that’s why I didn’t mention it. OF course, someone has to pay taxes. I wouldn’t want to live without SOME of the things our taxes pay for. Others I could definitely live without.
